Against impossible odds, chef Sean Brock opened a fast-casual burger and biscuit joint on Woodland Street in East Nashville in late March. Despite the city’s shutdown, he managed to hire and train staff, wrap up his extensive research and development, and determine how to operate during a pandemic. Sean Brock Raised in rural Virginia, Chef Sean Brock has been involved in the repatriation of the Southern pantry and cuisine for the past 20 years. In 2010, he won the James Beard Award for Best Chef, Southeast, and is a four-time finalist for Outstanding Chef, as well as a three-time finalist for Rising Star Chef. Details are still quiet at this time — but Sean Brock is definitely taking over the shuttered East Nashville Stay Golden space — and opening a place the celebrity chef has dubbed Joyland.
