The thirty-nine operas of Gioachino ROSSINI (1792-1868). A conspectus of their composition and recordings. Gioachino Rossini was born on February 29 th 1792 in Pesaro on the Adriatic coast of what we now call Italy and which at that time was a series of separate states under foreign occupation.

The author treats each of Rossini's 39 operas, Donizetti's 66, and Bellini's 10, discussing the libretto and the circumstances of each opera's first performance, outlining the plot, and ending with an analysis of the music. Tancredi is a melodramma eroico (opera seria or 'heroic' opera) in two acts by composer Gioachino Rossini and librettist Gaetano Rossi, based on Voltaire's play Tancrède (1759). The opera made its first appearance in Venice at the Teatro La Fenice on February 6, 1813, after Il signor Bruschino premiered in late January, giving the composer less than a month to have completed Tancredi.
